CCMS 40-BOOK CHALLENGE

This school year, Churchill County Middle School students of Barbara Hickox, Shannon Matheson and Lanni Mori were challenged to read 40 books of varying genres. To the delight of their teachers, many students accomplished this goal and even exceeded it.

Although students were challenged to read 40 books, the intent and hope was to excite kids and spark the love of reading in all students. By introducing and encouraging students to explore the various genres, many found a new interest in reading.


ASHLEE HICKS EASTMAN

Ashlee Hicks Eastman graduated on May 19 with her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the joint program at the University of California, San Francisco and San Francisco State University.

She completed clinical internships in outpatient physical therapy and sports medicine, as well as the hospital intensive care unit during her time in the program. Ashlee plans to pursue employment in the hospital setting after passing her national licensure exam in July.

Eastman earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education from Northern Arizona University in 2007. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Blake. Eastman is the daughter of Chris Hicks and Jennifer and Ed Ferris. She is the granddaughter of Lillie Bright.


KAILANEE YOUNG REYES

Fernley Republican Women presented a $1,000 scholarship to Kailanee Young Reyes at the Fernley High School Senior Awards Night on May 24.

Reyes plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing while working in a health care setting. She plans to continue her education and become a labor and delivery nurse or an obstetrician.


JUSTINE ENOCHS

Justine R. Enochs from Churchill County was named to the Columbia College dean’s list for the January-March 2016 and March-May 2016 sessions:

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0-point scale.

Founded in 1851 in Columbia, Mo., Columbia College has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 160 years. As a private, nonprofit, liberal arts and sciences institution, the college takes pride in its small classes, experienced faculty and quality educational programs.


BLACK, HOMMA

Molly Black and RoseMary Homma of Fallon have earned placement on the Gonzaga University President’s List for spring semester 2016. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

Gonzaga University is a humanistic, private Catholic University providing a Jesuit education to more than 7,500 students. Situated along the Spokane River near downtown Spokane, Wash., Gonzaga is routinely recognized among the West’s best comprehensive regional universities. Gonzaga offers 75 fields of study, 25 master’s degrees, a doctorate in leadership studies, and a Juris Doctor degree through its School of Law.


REIBSAMEN

Kelsey Reibsamen of Fallon has been named to the Dean’s List at Simpson University for the spring 2016 semester.

Reibsamen’s major is Social Science for Teachers.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must have a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.


OSU GRADUATES

Oregon State University will hold its 147th commencement on Saturday

OSU is one of the few large universities in the nation to hand out students’ actual diplomas during the commencement ceremony.

Local students graduating this June from Oregon State include the following:
