Early voting for the primary election ends today from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Churchill County Commissioner chambers.
The primary election is Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center.
Since early voting began on May 28, 1,018 people have voted including 161 who sent in absentee ballots.
One Churchill County race will decide a county commissioner from District 3, and residents will vote for a Republican candidate for U.S Senate to face Democrat Catherine Masto Cortez in the fall. Nine candidates are vying for the Republican senate seat..
Bill Slentz, a Fallon businessman and former trustee on the Churchill County School Board. is challenging incumbent Carl Erquiaga, who is seeking his third term on the commission. Both are Republicans, and the top candidate of Tuesday’s election will be declared the winner.
Nevada state law was changed in 2015 to allow winners to be elected in the primary election if they did not face candidates from another party in the general election.
Churchill County has two nonpartisan races which will be decided next week.
Phil Pinder, Tricia Strasdin and Kathryn Whitaker are candidates for three open seats on the school board.
Sheldon Chipp and Marion Jonte are running for two openings on the Mosquito, Vector and Noxious Weed Abatement Board.
