Watson here and I just returned from a long road trip with my mom and dad. We went to see my boy graduate from eighth grade. I got to visit with my cousins: Brock, Roosevelt and Sammy They have a giant yard and a swimming pool. It would have been perfect except for Sammy who is the most annoying dog ever. She just bites, bites and bites me until I growl.
Traveling for dogs is stressful because you are constantly on the move. I have learned to lie down and try to relax. I usually have a seat belt on in case we have to stop suddenly. I flew off the seat once before I had the seat belt, so my mom and dad are sure I’m strapped in. We always stop on the way there. Every rest stop I get to go out and roam around.
We stopped in Lodi on the way back, and I got to go into lots of places. They are real dog friendly at most of the wineries, and I got petting galore. We ate at the park, and I was sure happy that my mom had packed my water dish and food. It was fun playing in the grass, but I mostly liked the shade because it was hot. My dad always finds the parks (but especially dog parks) before we go.
Our hotel was great! They love dogs and welcomed me with open arms. My dad always packs my bed and blanket, so it’s almost like home. The hotel had a secret garden where I went for a walk in the morning. I also got to go for the PLB (pathetic little breakfast): that’s what my mom calls the continental breakfast. They had a pancake machine that I would have loved to sit under because the pancakes just rolled out of it.
My mom just reminded me that there is a book for folks who like to travel with their pet. It has tons of information on pet-friendly hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, dog parks and attractions. The title is “Traveling With Your Pet: The AAA Petbook.”
One thing I forgot to mention is always have lots of treats handy; I mean LOTS of treats. I think my mom didn’t get that memo because I just got the occasional treat. Memo to mom: TREATS for traveling.
XOXO Watson
WHO’S WHO
Our Who’s Who this week are two volunteers who took two of our guests on a sleepover camping trip. Yes, Tank and Nugget camped with Herbert and Amber at Indian Lakes. The guys were just thrilled to get away from it all and spend time in nature. A Paws Up to Herbert and Amber for enriching our guests lives.
We always welcome volunteers to help at CAPS. If you like to walk, camp or just hang out, we have the right partners for you. Call Rita at 423-7500 to get involved and meet the pups.
WHO’S NEW AT THE CAPS’ ZOO?
This week we are featuring our campers: Nugget and Tank. Nugget is a three-year-old American pit bull. He has a heart of gold, which is why he’s named Nugget. Tank is a one-year-old Lab mix who is sweet and full of fun. Come out and meet our happy campers; they are just waiting for their happy-ever-after home.
