Carson Tahoe Health is hosting a child abuse and neglect symposium from 4 to 7 p.m. June 29 to help shed light on the signs of child abuse or neglect, and what can be done to help.

The event will feature a lineup of guest speakers, including: Special Master Kimberly Okezie of Juvenile Court, who will give an update on the state of child abuse and neglect in our community; Molly Blanchette, who will discuss mandatory reporting, recognizing the signs of abuse or neglect and what can be done to help; Michael J. Luque from the University of Nevada School of Social Work, who will discuss how substance abuse can affect parenting and potentially lead to abuse or neglect; and Chris Bayer, director of CASA Carson City and Lori Nichols, DCFS foster home recruiter, who will discuss how you can make a positive difference and help.

The free symposium will be held at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center’s Valley View Room, 1600 Medical Parkway, Carson City. A meet and greet will open the symposium, with a Q&A to conclude the event. Refreshments will be provided.
