Challenger Dave Nelson denied opponent Greg Lynn a third term on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday.
Nelson won more than 56 percent of the vote in the Republican primary to eliminate Lynn from contention in District 1.
Under a law sponsored by Sen. James Settelmeyer in 2015, the winner of the primary would go onto be the lone candidate on the November ballot.
In the race to replace District 3 County Commissioner Doug Johnson, former planning commissioner Larry Walsh defeated current planning commissioner Frank Godecke with more than 58 percent of the vote.
Both Nelson and Walsh will take office on Jan. 1, 2017.
B. Keith Byer came out of the primary race with more than 46 percent of the School Board Area 3 race. Michael Kiger was second with 30 percent of the vote and Nicholas Shepack received 23 percent.
Byer and Kiger will meet again in the November primary.
Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District board members Barbara Smallwood and Bob Allgeier came out of the race in the lead.
Gardnerville resident Patty Baratti-Sallani was eliminated from the race. The other four candidates will appear on the general election ballot.
Turn-out in the election was dismal, with less than 35 percent of active voters casting a ballot.
Slightly less than 30 percent of Democrats and 45 percent of Republicans participated in the primary.
