Gardnerville apartments on fire

Gardnerville, Nev. — Thirty people were displaced Tuesday after a three-alarm apartment fire in Gardnerville rendered nine apartments uninhabitable.

Two people were injured escaping the flames, with one taken for treatment at Carson Valley Medical Center and the other treated at the scene, according to Incident Commander East Fork Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson.

Fogerson said firefighters would be working into the night to make sure the building was safe so residents could return to two of the apartments.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke pouring from the apartment buildings along Lampe Drive about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Apartment residents were sheltered at Valley Christian Fellowship, where they met with representatives of the American Red Cross.

East Fork Fire District received aid from surrounding agencies. Carson City and Tahoe Douglas firefighters helped fight the fire. Mono County and REMSA supplied coverage in Carson Valley.

Units from Reno Fire Department and Storey County also responded to the fire.

East Fork called all available personnel to respond, and for volunteers to staff their stations.

Lampe is closed at Highway 395. NV Energy shut off power to the apartments and is waiting to get the all clear to turn on those not affected by the fire.

The Nevada Highway Patrol aided the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in controlling the crowd at the scene.

The apartments are located at 1375 Lampe Drive. According to the Douglas County Assessor’s Office, they were built in 1973.
