Eighteen Arrowhead 4-H Livestock members participated in the 2016 Nevada Junior Livestock Show May 11-15 at Reno Livestock Events Center.
Club members raised and participated in classes in beef, goat, sheep, swine, dairy, quiz bowl and herdsmanship. All members were required to take classes and be current in their Quality Assurance tests prior to showing in their species. Several members in the club raised and showed two species for the 2016 show year.
4-H’ers Lander Smith and Katelin Victor received blue ribbon awards for their Market Steers in the 1000-1350 class. In Beef Showmanship Novice class, Lander Smith placed 3rd and Katelin Victor 5th.
Sierra Coleman placed 3rd in Dairy Goat — Breeding, Sr. Doe, 1st in Novice Dairy Goat Showmanship and 6th in Sr. Dairy Goat Showmanship. Julia Ruedy placed 5th in Market Goat — Feeder and 5th in Market Goat Showmanship Novice.
Katelin Victor took 6th in Sheep Breeding Wether Sire & Dam Pair of Ewe Lambs. In Market Sheep-Lambs 105–150, Devin Jackson, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Kayla Holcomb, Hayden Story, Alexa Coleman and Sarah Jackson received blue ribbons, Parker Story received a red ribbon.
In Breeding Swine Unregistered Sr. Gilt, Kelly Strasser placed 5th and Holly Strasser placed 6th. Breeding Swine — Best Bred & Owned, Holly Strasser placed 3rd. In Livestock Feeder Swine, Kelly Strasser placed 2nd, Holly Strasser placed 3rd and Sierra Coleman 7th. Kelly Strasser placed 2nd in Champion and Reserved Feeder Swine. In Market Swine 210 — 285 Kenny Holcomb and Hailey Haas received blue ribbons and Jose Cazares received a red ribbon. In Junior Swine Showmanship Kelly Strasser placed 1st.

Dairy Cattle-Breeding Junior Champion & Reserved Dairy Female, Zoie Harmer 1st and Kelly Strasser 2nd. Dairy Cattle-Breeding Aged Cow, Hayden Story 2nd. Dairy Cattle-Showmanship Jr. Dairy, Kelly Strasser 1st. Dairy Cattle-Showmanship Intermediate Dairy, Kelly Strasser 1st, Parker Story 4th. Dairy Cattle Showmanship Sr. Dairy, Hayden Story 1st and Zoie Harmer 3rd.
Arrowhead Livestock Club placed 1st in General Quiz Bowl-Team, Meat Goat Herdsmanship, and Dairy Cattle Herdsmanship. Junior Round Robin, Kelly Strasser placed 1st. In Sheep Livestock Sheep Market Group, Arrowhead Livestock 2nd.
4-H is a youth program for ages 5-19 offered by the University of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension. In addition to livestock projects, Carson City and Storey County 4-H offers cloverbuds (ages 5-9), cooking, shooting sports, robotics and more.
