Carson City’s Krysta Palmer will compete in the women’s synchronized platform and individual 10-meter platform finals at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Indianapolis.
Palmer along with partner Tarrin Gilliland of Midland, Texas, are in fourth-place entering the synchronized platform finals tonight at 7 p.m. Palmer is ninth entering the 10-meter platform finals on Saturday.
Gilliland, the youngest diver in the field at 13 years old, and Palmer placed fourth through the prelims and semifinals on Saturday with a cumulative score of 544.02. They trail the leaders and reigning national champions, Jessica Parratto and Amy Cozad, by 73 points. One team will qualify for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Palmer, the two-time Mountain West Diver of the Year, scored a 294.95 to place eighth and advance to the semifinals on Monday. She came back later in the day and scored a 278.65 in the semifinals to hold her top-10 spot and advance to the finals.
Palmer currently boasts a 573.60 cumulative score in the event, trailing leader Jessica Parratto by 141 points and runner-up Samantha Bromberg by 72 points.
The individual platform finals will be televised live on NBC.
The top two finishers in each individual diving event are selected for the U.S. Olympic Team.
