Too many events scheduled on same weekend

Thanks to the Appeal for announcing events and then covering the same for Father’s Day weekend. I love to attend as many events as possible, but this plethora of weekend events makes it impossible to do them all. There just isn’t enough time.

Think about it. Last weekend was the Stewart Father’s Day Powwow, Carson City Airport Open House, the Epic Ride, the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s Steampunk ‘n Trains, the 3rd and Curry St. Farmer’s Market, the Great Race in Gardnerville, Wings of Freedom at the Minden/Tahoe Airport, Reno’s Rodeo, and probably several more that I have forgotten or missed. This is not including the Friends of the Nevada State Museum Victorian Fashion Show, scheduled for months on the 18th at the Governor’s Mansion, that had to be postponed because the Epic Ride caused the closure of several streets around the Mansion. Even the Mansion employees were not aware of the street closures until about 10 days before the event.

My point is that with so many events, people have to pick and choose, as is often the case. But it seems to me that if there had been more communication between the people organizing these events, that dates could have been altered to stretch out people coming to Carson and the Carson Valley. More people would be able to attend more events and enjoy them and perhaps spend more money in our area.

I realize that some of these events are traditionally held on Father’s Day weekend (such as the powwow) and some are special events. But can’t there be some communication to allow interested people to attend more than one or two? Doesn’t the tourism department talk to anyone besides themselves?
