Lawyer advice

Attorneys and specialists will next offer their services for FREE on Aug. 2 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the County Commissioners Chambers, 155 N. Taylor St.

They will answer questions on family law and wills and probate. Walk-in appointments welcome or call 775-463-1222 to make an appointment. These sessions are being sponsored by the Nevada Legal Service and the Churchill Community Coalition.

Equivalency test

WNC/Fallon will be offering a special summer session for those interested in prepping for the HSE(High School Equivalency) test.

The next term of eight week classes will be starting Aug. 11.

Spaghetti fundraiser

A spaghetti feed and silent auction will be held July 9 at Eagles Hall for Scarlett Telford, a 3 year old who diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Scarlett receives her treatments in San Francisco, taking her mother away from her business often.

The community is invited to come enjoy a spaghetti dinner and silent auction. The dinner is $10 per plate, $5 per plate for children 12 and under. Donations are being accepted for the auction.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner being served at 6 p.m..

Redneck Shindig vendors needed

Vendors, volunteers, musicians, and participants in the 5K, redneck and classic car show, and other family friendly activities are needed for the Redneck Shindig on Aug. 6.

The Cancer Warriors for Central Nevada is supporting Scarlett Telford in this year’s Redneck Shindig at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. Scarlett is a 3 year old diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Community clothing drive

The fifth annual Community Clothing Give-Away will be held July 30 from 8 a.m.– noon at Oats Park Gym.

This is a free event for the whole family sponsored by Churchill County, Fallon Elks Lodge, city of Fallon, Churchill Community Coalition, and many local resources! The Community Clothing Give-Away is one of many events that make up Fallon Community Day. Donations of gently used, clean clothing can be dropped off in the Community Clothing Give-Away donation boxes at SP Counseling Center, Churchill County Library, Fallon Chamber of Commerce, WIC, or the Churchill County Social Services Lobby through July 28.

Vendors, crafters needed for July craft fair

Vendors and crafters are needed as Fallon Lights of Christmas presents the Christmas in July Craft Fair on July 29-30 at the Wolf Center.

Allen Road closure

The Churchill County Road Department will begin an asphalt paving project on Allen Road between Franklin Street and Sheckler Road starting the week of July 11.

Fallon Community Day

The fifth annual Fallon Community Day will be held July 30 from 8 a.m.– noon at Oats Park Gym.

This is a free event for the whole family sponsored by Churchill County, Fallon Elks Lodge, city of Fallon, Churchill Community Coalition, and many local resources.

There will be a BBQ, bounce houses, scavenger hunt/school supply/backpack give-away, community clothing give-away, free haircuts, free swim, emergency vehicles, car seat safety/install checks, community resource information, and so much more.

Caregiver support groups

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Support Groups are designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. Participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.

The groups encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related form of dementia. Free of charge and walk-ins are welcome.

Open discussion with a trained facilitator. Date: Second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Time: 10:30 a.m.–noon. Location: The Homestead. 365 West A St.

Amateur radio

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur Radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio to join us

The A.R.C.C. is a general interest Amateur (HAM) Radio Club serving Fallon, Fernley and surrounding areas. We have our monthly business social breakfast meeting each month. A NET Every Sunday at 6 p.m.(1800) local time on repeater 146.97 with PL of 103.5 Hz.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home.

Volunteers needed in Fallon to help distribute food during the day, one Wednesday every two months. Must be able to stand at least five hours.

Artists Critique Workshop

The Artists’ Critique Workshop welcomes artists of all levels and media to join a monthly critique workshop held the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Churchill County Museum. The goal is to provide encouragement to like-minded artists with constructive suggestions and support within a positive environment.


St. Patrick’s bingo

St. Patrick Catholic Church invites the public to play bingo in its parish hall on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo games starting at 6:15 p.m. Monetary prizes will be awarded to bingo winners. Refreshments may be purchased.

Hearts of Gold Quilters

The Hearts of Gold Quilters meets Thursdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way. All quilters are welcome. We meet weekly to make donation quilts, as well as working on our own projects.

Writer’s Workshop

Are you a writer looking for a place to work with like-minded people? The Churchill County Library is pleased to announce its Writer’s Workshop led by Sara Dowling.

Meetings are every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Annex for quiet work, or the library for a more conversational approach.

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. Contact the Churchill County DA, Child Support Division at 775-423-8423.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the D.A.’s Child Support Division.

Foster parents provide a temporary home so these children can heal and feel supported.

JOIN has received federal funds that will allow us to pay for your instruction, class materials, and certification fees.
