Franklin Graham is stopping in Carson City on his Decision America 2016 tour.

The Christian evangelist, son of Billy Graham and president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, will host a rally at noon March 30 at the Capitol Amphitheater on the Legislative Plaza.

The election-year tour is visiting all 50 states, mostly at the state’s capitals, to encourage people to vote in the upcoming election and to run for local offices based on their Christian values.

“Think about mayors and city council members, county commissioners and school boards,” Franklin told a crowd at his Jan. 18 stop in Concord, N.H., in a video posted on youtube.com. “Could you imagine if the majority of school boards were controlled by Christian men and women?”

The hour-long event also will feature Dennis Agajanian, a guitarist, who often accompanies the tour, according to Cindy Kessler, an administrative assistant with the Decision America 2016 tour.

The tour has also obtained a permit to use Mills Park, but Kessler said it always secures a second, back-up location in every state. The rally will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Capitol Ampitheater.

Earlier in the month, the tour is scheduled to visit Denver, Sante Fe, N.M., Phoenix and Salt Lake City, and to move on to Sacramento after Carson City.

The Carson City Christian Ministerial Association, which is also helping with the March 30 event, is holding a prayer service for the March 30 rally from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 11 at Silver Hills Community Church, 1066 Mallory Way.

The Association holds a quarterly prayer service and the March 11 quarterly prayer service is being dedicated to the March 30 rally. Music will be featured at the March 11 service, several pastors will lead in prayer and those attending will also break up in groups to pray.

“It’s been a unifying thing among the churches,” Good Shepherd Wesleyan Church Nick Emery said. Along with Emery, Fountainhead Foursquare Pastor Louie Locke, Calvary Chapel Pastor Pat Probster, Airport Road Church of Christ Pastor Bruce Henderson, Jim Peckham of FISH and the Salvation Army’s Mark Cyr serve on the association’s leadership team.

The association meets monthly at Grandma Hattie’s and also organizes the National Day of Prayer of Event held every May at the Capitol.

Emery said several hundred people attend the National Day of Prayer Event. Emery said people from all over the state plan to attend the March 30 event, so it could be expected a crowd at least as big if not exceeding that of the National Day of Prayer Event will attend the March 30 event.
