The Harrigan Road bridge that crosses the L-line Canal at Wildes Road opened Wednesday without much fanfare.

Work had begun in November to replace the original bridge built in 1923.

The Nevada Department of Transportation said the bridge’s deteriorating supports needed replacing. Motorists will notice the new structure replicates the look of the historic bridge built in 1923. Rock has been placed in the canal to help reduce future erosion of the bridge supports, and paving at the Wood Drive frontage road intersection with Harrigan Road will be improved. Approximately 2,300 vehicles travel the stretch of Harrigan Road daily.

The majority of the $622,000 project by contractor MKD Construction was completed on time. Final paving will take place in the spring as temperatures warm up.
