Two arrested in Carson City after domestic disturbance ends with shots fired

Two men have been detained following a shooting Sunday night in Carson City.

Deputies responded to the 4000 block of Pheasant Drive around 8:30 p.m. Sunday after a 911 call about a fight with shots fired. One reporting party had advised they heard a male yell “he’s dead” at the time of the gunshot, the arrest report said.

When deputies arrived, Andrew Toland, 22, came out of the residence and surrendered to Carson City Sheriff’s deputies. Deputies found a graze or ricochet wound on his right ankle, Toland was treated and released by medics at the scene.

Toland had been at his ex-girlfriend’s residence, trying to win her back, according to detectives. The victim told deputies that Toland had called her nearly 40 times that day and had showed up at her residence and pounded on the door for several minute, trying to get her to let him in. The victim had called her boyfriend, Matthew Premo, 20, to help her, when Toland entered the residence through the back door. Premo arrived and the two got into a fight, when Premo pulled out a revolver and shot Toland.

Premo had fled the scene and was located by deputies near the 3400 block of Woodside Drive. He told deputies that he had brought the gun to help the victim, but was trying to re-holster the weapon when it went off.

Toland told deputies that he thought “his persistence would prove his love and devotion” for the victim.

Toland was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary and violation of conditions of probation. Premo was arrested on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, felony assault of a deadly weapon, felony possession of a firearm by prohibited persons and minor consuming. Bail for Toland was set at $23,000 and bail for Premo was set at $70,150.
