Just what are comets, and how do they work? The Western Nevada College Jack C. Davis Observatory invites the public to a free lecture about comets at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mike Thomas will share his knowledge about these mysterious and beautiful visitors from the outer reaches of the Solar System. Famous comets from the past and more recent events will be discussed, along with the mythological beliefs associated to them.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The observatory is at 2699 Van Patten Drive, just west of the Western Nevada College campus. Star viewing will also be available, weather permitting.
