SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Major honor for Carson City’s Tom

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Tom Andreasen and his family for a well-deserved honor when the Carson City School District Board voted unanimously to name the court at Carson High’s main gym in Andreasen’s honor. Andreasen, who died of cancer in December at 71, was a legendary coach and educator at Carson High who coached the CHS boys basketball team to the state title in 1975. Also to U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei, who played for Andreasen on that 1975 team, for proposing to name the court in his coach’s honor. So from now on, everyone who plays at CHS will be playing at Tom Andreasen Court at Morse Burley Gym.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson High bowling team who continued its dominance by winning another Northern Nevada title.

SILVER DOLLAR: Forgive us for being self-serving, but we’re also giving a Silver Dollar to a former publisher, Mark Raymond, who was honored during his retirement party Tuesday at Silver Oak Golf Course. Pardon the pun, but Raymond certainly did make his ‘Mark’ on Carson City.
