Sierra Lutheran High School educator J.P. Albert wears many hats — Spanish and physical education teacher and assistant football coach. But Albert is also lacing up his dancing shoes.

Partnered with Tracey Muetzenberg, Albert is competing in Suicide Prevention Network of Douglas County’s Gotta Dance Competition on Friday, when 10 couples will compete for charity at the Douglas County Senior and Community Center.

The competition is an annual fundraiser in the style of the ABC show, “Dancing with the Stars.” The “stars” are members of the community who are willing to commit time and effort to learn a dance number with a local dance instructor.

The event is the Suicide Prevention Network of Douglas County’s primary fundraiser. Each dancer is competing for a trophy based on the judges’ scores and on the monies they have raised, called “Dancing Dollars.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Gold tickets cost $55 per person; silver tickets cost $45 per person; and cocktail tables cost $35 per person.

Tickets are limited. For tickets, call Suicide Prevention Executive Director Debbie Posnien at 775-783-1510. Online voting and donating are at www.spnawareness.org.
