Thieves. A theft was committed at the Capitol Hay Yard. Two wagons, one belonging to Thomas W. Childs and the other to Thomas Richards, were in the street outside of the yard, one of the wagons being loaded with goods. The owners were sleeping in the other wagon belonging to Richards. The two men were awakened by a match being struck close to their heads. Childs and Richards went to the other wagon and found that rascals had cut the ropes holding the canvas cover on the wagon and taken a trunk and valise. The town is infested by a pack of groveling thieves.

Buffalo Bill. Appearing at the Opera House here March 26 is well known actor Buffalo Bill. According to the Cincinnati Commercial: “The Academy was crowded last evening on the occasion of the first appearance this season of Buffalo Bill’s Combination. The play was ‘The Prairie Waif,’ a thrilling and romantic border drama. A real Indian maiden figure is in the cast, also a number of Pawnees under the control of Pawnee Bill.”

Heaviest snowfall. Thirty-two feet of snow is recorded as the fall in the high Sierras ... far in excess of any fall noted in a great many years.
John Mackey tribute. He has donated several thousand a month to the Sisters Hospital at Virginia (City) running for years. Donations were not made public. Mackey also paid the grocery bills of poor families for years. He settled the bills and told the grocers to keep them supplied. This amounted to about five thousand dollars a month for years.

Riding stables. Barbecues, scenic rides over old cow pony trails and much more is promised Carson City residents with the opening of Carl’s riding stables. The stables are located at McGuigan’s barn on the Hot Springs Road. “The stables, which will be for the benefit of Carson residents only will feature hay rides, chuck wagon dinners, and pine nut hunts,” according to Carl Stirman.

Photo caption. Bulldozers, power shovels, tank trucks, firemen, planes with borate, and all other means of fire fighting were employed as fire departments from the entire surrounding area converged on Jack’s Valley to battle the brush fire. Only one home was reported as fire damaged. Several hundred acres were blackened by the flames thought to have gotten out of hand from a controlled burn.
