150 Years Ago

Hunter’s Station. We dined off a young sage hen and are prepared to pronounce them equal to any wild birds a sportsman can find in the regions of alkali and zephyrs. Hunter’s station is an excellent place to rendezvous, preparatory to a hunt of cottontails, jackass hares and sage fowls. It is also a place for good cheer, hospitality, and a most generous and accommodating proprietor. No inn surpasses it.

All sorts. Seats for Buffalo Bill are being rapidly taken. He announces that he brings a real Indian maiden along with him.

110 Years Ago

Manhattan. The Appeal editor and Mr. E. P. Esser returned from a trip to Manhattan where they found the town site has been laid out and a tented city is springing up into prominence. The magic touch has struck the section and cities are born in a night. New gold finds are being uncovered every day and specimens are exhibited on every street corner. (Continued on Tuesday.)

80 Years Ago

Illegal possession of gold. Lee Adams is held in the Ormsby County jail. He was arrested in Carson by Charles B. Rich of the U.S. Secret Service and was charged with having $190 in gold coins. This is in violation of the 1934 Gold Reserve Act.

50 Years Ago

Outdoor advertising. The U.S. Bureau of Public Roads will conduct a session to determine specific regulations under the 1965 Federal Highway Beautification Act. Nevada must remove all billboards within 660 feet of interstate freeways. Junkyards are to be screened with shrubs and trees or be moved 1,000 feet off the right-of-way.
