RENO — Abigail Pradere is now the top 800-meter runner in the state of Nevada.
The Carson freshman ran a 2:21 Saturday at Damnonte Ranch, which puts her three seconds lower than anybody.
At deadline, complete results had not been posted, and thus no team scores, and times and places were incomplete. North Valleys and Hug competed in the meet.
Pradere teamed with Blanca Sosa, Athena Favero and Josefina Ortiz-Osty to win the 1,600-meter relay in 4:20.52. The Carson girls also won the 3200 relay in 10:13.23.
Favero won the 200 in 26.9 and the 300 hurdles in 46-8, while Ortiz-Osty took the 3200 in 12:56.01. Erica Basa won the 100 in 14.0 and was second in the triple jump at 29-9
On the boys side, Jesus Lopez-Rodriguez ran a 11.2 in the 100 and a 23.5 in the 200. Hector Gomez-Barrios ran a 5:03 in the 1600 and a 2:05.7 in the 800, Ian Van Rensselaer ran a 2:05 in the 800. Carson’s 1600 relay quartet clocked a 3:35.0 and the 3200 relay team ran an 8:48.23. Greg Wallace high jumped 6-2 and clocked an 11.7 in the 100. He was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 19-7. Asa Carter, who set a school record last week with a 46-10 mark in the triple jump, was second this week in the long jump at 20-9 1/2. No boys triple jump marks had been posted at deadline
Ply shines at Yerington meet
J.J. Ply won three individual events and Zach Hawley won twice to lead the Dayton boys to a third-place finish at the Yerington Relays Saturday afternoon.
Sparks won the boys meet with 122 points, Yerington was second at 109 and Dayton was third with 92. Fallon won the girls meet with 111 points followed by Sierra Lutheran at 98, Fernley 95.5 and Dayton 94.
Ply won the pole vault (13-6), 400 (54.14) and 110 hurdle (15.77). He also took second in the high jump at 6-2. Hawley won the discus at 148-1 and the shot put at 54-feet 11 1/4 inches. Brady Huesser won the 1600 in 4:47.24 and was sixth in the 3200 (11:03.78). Hunter Hatch was sixth in the 1600 and fifth in the 3200.
Zaria Landis led the Dayton girls with a first-place finish in the 800 (2:39.54) and a third in the 1600 (5:50.37). Freshman Grace Wells won the 400 in 64.94. Kassie Strong was third in the discus at 92-2 and Rebecca Mason was third in the high jump at 4-10. Ashley Mason was fifth in the long jump at 14-feet.
VARSITY SOFTBALL
Reed sweeps Carson
SPARKS — The defending state champs rolled to a 14-1 win in the opener and an 11-1 win in the nightcap of Saturday’s Division I doubleheader.
Reed improved to 3-0 and Carson dropped to 0-3.
In the opener, Reed rolled to 14-0 lead through four. Carson avoided the shutout in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Nicole Brown. Carson managed just three other hits, all by Bailey Allen.
In the nightcap, Reed led just 4-1 through four. Alysha Imperato hit a three-run homer to make it 7-1 after five, and Kenzi Goins hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth to make it a 10-run game. Carson managed just three hits in the second game, one each by Brown, Gabi Winder and Jailene Salciedo.
Elko sweeps Dayton
DAYTON — The Indians completed the three-game sweep over the Dust Devils, winning 13-3 and 23-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Dust Devils fell to 0-6-1.
Aleea Howe went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored in the opener, while Elizabeth Vincent went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
In the second game, Dayton managed a hit apiece from Alaura Greenwalt and Howe. The defense struggled, making 15 errors.
Dayton visits Spring Creek for a weekend series starting Friday.
VARSITY BASEBALL
Elko sweeps Dust Devils
DAYTON — Elko completed its three-game sweep with a 16-1 win and a 14-3 win Saturday afternoon.
Dayton falls to 4-3 overall and 0-3 in league. The Dust Devils visit Spring Creek for a three-game series starting on Friday.
“I think facing Elko the first weekend is only going to make us better,” DHS coach Mike Burrows said. “Even though we didn’t play our best defensively and we struggled at the plate, I’m encouraged by our team’s young arms.
“I was pleased with the way we responded in the third game (second game of DH). We got a much-needed spark with Baker’s three-run shot and did a better job defensively, We stayed in the game until the sixth.”
Dylan Baker gave Dayton its only lead of the series, 3-0, with his first-inning bomb. Elko bounced back with two in the second and third, four in the fourth and six in the sixth.
Justin Schmidt had two hits while Trevor Burrows doubled and Gage Duke singled.
In the opener, Dayton managed just singles by Zach Woitas and Jesse Schmidt.
JV BASEBALL
Carson tops Reed
Josh Buchan and Colby Zemp drove in three runs apiece to lead the Senators to a 15-10 win over Reed Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Glanzmann went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Buchan, Zemp, Landon Truesdale, Terin Keller and Kahle Good all contributed two hits apiece.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Purcell on a tear
MISSOULA, Mont. — Carson grad Jennifer Purcell went 4-for-4 with five RBI to spark Nevada to a 10-2 mercy rule win over Nebraska-Omaha Saturday.
One of Purcell’s hits was a three-run HR in the third to give Nevada a 4-0 lead. She had a run-scoring double in the fifth. She’s 9 for her last 9, and the NCAA record is 13-for-13.
