CCSD kindergarten registration

Kindergarten Registration for the 2016-2017 school year will be held April 4-15. Registration packets may be picked up at the Churchill County School District office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Incoming students must turn 5 on or before September 30, 2016. Parents must provide current immunization records and a state issued birth certificate.

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur Radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio to join us

The A.R.C.C. is a general interest Amateur (HAM) Radio Club serving Fallon, Fernley and surrounding areas. We have our monthly business social breakfast meeting each month. A NET Every Sunday at 6 p.m.(1800) local time on repeater 146.97 with PL of 103.5 Hz.

Adult Ed testing

Churchill County Adult Ed will be giving the Nevada Proficiency Test April 11-15. Math, science and reading given all five days but the Writing Proficiency only given on April 13. Testing will take place at a 280 S. Russell St. Adult Ed is located at the former West End library building off Center Street. CC Democrats Convention

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their 2016 County Convention on April 2 at the Churchill County Senior Center, 310 Court St., Fallon. Doors open at 9 a.m. for registration, and the convention begins at 10 a.m. Delegates for the state convention will be elected, and all business should be concluded by 3 p.m. For more information, call 775-867-4229.


AAUW annual film

The American Association of University Women’s annual film festival and dessert extravaganza is April 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Churchill County High School Auditorium.

“Brooklyn,” starring Saoirse Ronan, is a beautiful film about an Irish immigrant who lands in Brooklyn in 1950. She falls in love with a local and must choose between two countries and her life.

Movie historian Howard Rosenberg will discuss the film. The donation of $20 includes movie, drink and dessert buffet. Purchase tickets at Jeff’s, AAUW members, or call Kathleen at 775-423-1814.

All proceeds fund local scholarships.


AAUW re-entry scholarship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Fallon Branch, is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Churchill County resident who wishes to resume college studies. Financial need, career goals, and academic ability are among the criteria for the scholarship. Applications are available at the main office at Western Nevada College, Fallon Campus, or online through the financial assistance office at www.wnc.edu. Applications must be typed and submitted to Angela Viera at WNC by April 15.


AAUW high school scholarship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), Fallon Branch, is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating high school student.

Applications can be found at the Churchill County High School website under Counseling and Guidance. Completed applications must be typed, signed by a parent or guardian, and returned to Renie Knittle, high school counselor, by the deadline, April 15.

The Blue Sky Thrift Store (formerly Fallon Humboldt Shredders) is located at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Bagged clothing sales, $4 per plastic shopping bag full of clothing available on Saturdays.

Drop-offs are made at the store location. Proceeds help provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities and families in need through community voucher programs.

St. Patrick’s bingo

St. Patrick Catholic Church invites the public to play bingo in its parish hall on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo games starting at 6:30 p.m. Monetary prizes will be awarded to bingo winners. Refreshments may be purchased. Free popcorn and coffee will be available.

Net proceeds will go toward the church’s building fund.

Writer’s Workshop

Are you a writer looking for a place to work with like-minded people?

The Churchill County Library is pleased to announce its Writer’s Workshop led by Sara Dowling.

Meetings are every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Annex for quiet work, or the library for a more conversational approach. All writers on all levels are welcome to participate.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home.

Studies have shown that books in the home are an important indicator of a child’s future success.

So join us for a fun-filled storytime and check out books to read at home.


Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. Contact the Churchill County DA, Child Support Division at 775-423-8423. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order.

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is located inside the front lobby of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, 801 E. Williams Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is owned and operated by Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary, which is a nonprofit organization. Abused and neglected children who are removed from their families often need to live outside of their communities, away from everything familiar.

In Nevada’s rural communities, many children, including teens and sibling groups, are in need of a safe and nurturing home.

Foster parents provide a temporary home so these children can heal and feel supported.

Foster parents can be single or married, male or female. They can be working, or a stay-at-home parent. They can also be retired with grown children.

JOIN has received federal funds that will allow us to pay for your instruction, class materials, and certification fees.
