Hathaway excels in the pool
Carson City’s Pierre Hathaway, 85, is among the top-10 swimmers in the world, according to rankings released by Masters Swimming World.
Hathaway recorded the second-fastest time in the 200-meter backstroke (4:30.24) in a short-course pool. He had the seventh-fastest time in the 100-meter back (2:05.63).
In the long-course rankings, Hathaway was third in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke events, recording times of 2:03.11 and 4:35.28, respectively. In the 50-meter backstroke he ranks ninth with a 55.80.
Hathaway believes working out at altitude is an advantage because most Pacific Masters events are at or near sea level.
