A Tucson four-piece that blends bluegrass, folk and the old timey American vernacular with touches of classical and turn of the century details is visiting Minden on April 22.

The Carson Valley Arts Council is presenting Run Boy Run live at 7 p.m. April 22 in the CVIC Hall.

The band is brother and sister Matt Rolland, who plays fiddle and guitar, and Grace Rolland, who plays cello and sings, sisters Bekah Sandoval Rolland, who plays fiddle and sings, and Jen Sandoval, who plays mandolin and sings. Ryan Alfred of Sweet Ghosts is joining the lineup on bass.

The group’s new album, “Something to Someone,” released last fall on Sky Island Records, has been praised by Performer Magazine, All Music Guide, PopMatters and The Guardian. The album was recorded at historic Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Wash., with producers Ryan Hadlock and Jerry Streeter.

The band said its unique sound is rooted in the traditional music of the Appalachian South, continuing a sense of innovation in traditional American music put forth by bands such as Nickel Creek, Crooked Still, and The Wailin’ Jennys.

From winning the band contest at Pickin’ In The Pines — mere weeks after forming in 2009 — and a special appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2012, to two appearances on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” the band was tagged by Paste Magazine as “One of the top 10 Arizona Bands to Hear Now.” It’s bringing its dynamic stage presence to live shows across the country, coast to coast, this summer and fall. When the band stops in Minden, it plans to offer two workshops at area elementary and high schools.

Doors for the Minden show open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $24 in advance and $28 at the door. Student admission is $5.
