Stage accident; no mail. The Pioneer Stage Company’s stage broke down near Sportsman’s Hall. The roads are very bad and stage driving is hard. It seems if the mail were always put on the advance coach, there would be a less chance for such an unpleasant express.

All sorts. Burglars entered the Arlington House kitchen, but hearing an alarm, left. The Excelsior House was also entered and provisions stolen.

Killed by a train. George Carr was run over by the V&T express train in the Yellow Jacket tunnel. His body was terribly mangled. The deceased was a native of Gold Hill, aged about 26 years. He leaves a widowed mother, three sisters and two brothers.

Jackass Flats. Scientist ran a nuclear rocket engine system for 13 minutes. The engine is a prototype designed to provide data for bigger engines to send Americans to Mars.

Six Mile Canyon Road. The road has been closed since New Year’s Eve due to heavy damage from flooding. If the state approves the county’s request for disaster relief funds, construction on the road could begin mid-May.
