City’s water policy is punishing citizens
I am writing in regards to Mr. Johnson’s letter in the Appeal on March 23. It really did my heart good to see someone else with the same mind-set that I have when it comes to water rates.
I, like so many others, have paid close attention to the reports of water needs and we all must conserve and do our part. I have taken this to heart and had my lawn removed and put in rock and added a drip system and conserved wherever I could inside my home.
Back in 2009 when my husband died we were paying an agreeable amount for our water usage, but it has gone up at least $20 since then, and I am sure they aren’t done yet. There is only one person in my household now. It doesn’t make sense, and now the powers that be need to raise the rates yet again because we have been true and honest citizens and complied with drought conditions.
Maybe some of the funds should come out of the pockets of Mr. Darren Schulz and Mr. David Bruketta for coming up with such a inane idea. We should not be punished for someone else’s mistakes. Has anybody ever come up with the idea of selling bonds to help pay for the work needed? The monies could be paid back by the city slower without breaking the backs of the citizenry. Just a thought.
