A bridge on Harrigan Road south of Fallon will temporarily close beginning on Monday as a final phase of a Nevada Department of Transportation project to replace the aging bridge commences.
Harrigan Road will be closed to all traffic through mid-April between Ernst Drive and Wildes Road for surface paving of the new bridge installed this winter. Traffic will be detoured via New River Parkway.
The Harrigan Road bridge crossing the L Line Canal just north of State Route 118/Wildes Road was recently replaced. The bridge was originally constructed in 1923, and the bridge’s deteriorating supports needed replacing. The bridge was replaced with a new structure that replicates the look of the historic bridge. Rock was placed in the canal to help reduce future erosion of the bridge supports, and paving at the Wood Drive frontage road intersection with Harrigan Road improved. Approximately 2,300 vehicles travel the stretch of Harrigan Road daily.
The repaving marks a final phase of a $622,000 project by contractor MKD Construction to replace the bridge.
