Only two days remain before Mother’s Day, but for many shoppers, they took care of buying gifts for their favorite person at an annual Fallon event.

The annual Mother’s Day Extravaganza at the Fallon Convention Center attracted 38 vendors and several hundred shoppers looking for that special gift for mom.

“We had a variety of vendors this year,” said Crystal Smotherman, who began the event five years ago to entice shoppers not to wait until the last minute to find something special for the women in their lives.

According to Smotherman, vendors ranged from those selling nutritional products to clothes and paintings.

For example, Candice Wallin said she has talked to many shoppers interested in her natural, healthy products that come from Omnitrition.

“Everybody seems to be pretty interested,” Wallin said of her line of products. “I’ve talked to many people.”

Lori Crook has been selling Tupperware for 11 years. She said sales were good at her booth.

Not only are Tupperware products ideal for Mother’s Day but also for Father’s Day, said Crook.

At the other end of the convention center floor, Autumn Bergreen displayed jewelry.

“We have a lot of conventional pieces,” she said, adding her jewelry can be extended into different lengths or shaped into different styles.

“We’re also coming out with more lifestyle pieces like sunglasses,” she added.

Bergreen said customers must order the products online. While some customers looked at the jewelry for Mother’s Day, she said others were getting ideas to use the jewelry as gifts for graduation, birthdays and summer weddings.

Cindy Erwet of Fallon enjoyed a brisk business with her clothing except for blouses.

“The skirts have been really popular, and leggings have been doing well too,” she said. “It’s the time of the season.”

Items for women’s hands and fingernails have sold well, said vendor Lark Young, who lives in Fernley. Her booth included nail wax, hand crèmes and vinyl nail wraps. For those not knowing exactly what to buy, Young said gift cards are a good alternative to stay on the safe side.

“If people don’t know the style, they buy a gift card and have her treat herself,” Young said.

Judy Magiera has been making American Indian gifts for most of her life.

“What I do is all handmade. I enjoy the different things,” she said.

Magiera displayed baskets, gourds, and necklaces for people who can’t wear metal, brooches and small bags.

For something that smells nice, Tammy Workman and her daughter had a table arranged with numerous scents.

“There’s a lot of interest for these scents for Mother’s Day. They want the smelly stuff,” Workman said with a smile.

For those who didn’t find that special gift at the Mother’s Day Extravaganza, Smotherman said the clock is ticking for those to remember mom or that special lady on Sunday.
