200: Top time: McQueen senior Jordan Jones ran 22.06 at the Meet of Champions and a dozen sprinters overall have run sub-23.
400: Top time: McQueen senior Alex Schwedt ran 48.70 at the Meet of Champions and sophomore teammate Randall Jubilee went 48.78 two weeks earlier at the Northwest Invitational in Reno on April 16. Ivan Giron-Burnham of Damonte Ranch placed third last year in 48.37.
800: Top time: Bishop Manogue senior Logan Spodobalski ran a state-best 1:53.84 at the Arcadia Invitational in Southern California on April 9. Spodobalski placed third last year.
1,600: Top time: Reed junior Anthony Ocegueda ran a state-best 4:17.15 at the Meet of Champions and his 4:26.05 at the Fallon Elks Invitational on March 26 is the fastest at altitude. Ocegueda was the region runner-up last year.
3,200: Top time: Ocegueda ran a state-best 9:14.76 at Arcadia and McQueen’s Henry Weisberg is the fastest at altitude with his 9:50.90 at Fallon. Top Tiger: Munyan ran 9:51.80 at Fallon.
110-meter high hurdles: Top time: Spanish Springs senior Tyler Morrison ran 15.10 at Fallon and Reed’s David Sanders 15.17 at the Meet of Champions.
300-meter intermediate hurdles: Top time: Reed sophomore Jorge Moreno ran 41.31 at the Meet of Champions.
4x100 relay: Top time: Damonte Ranch leads a fast pack with its 42.70, while McQueen (42.96) and Reed (43.13) figure to be in the hunt.
4x200 relay: Top time: McQueen ran 1:28.18 and Damonte Ranch 1:29.86, both at the Northwest Invitational.
4x400 relay: Top time: McQueen leads the state with its 3:18.73 at the Meet of Champions.
4x800 relay: Top time: McQueen ran 8:08.50 at the Northwest Invitational and Carson is No. 2 at 8:17.56.
Shot put: Top distance: Carson senior Ian Schulz threw 55-2-3/4 at Fallon and leads a pack of five contenders who have thrown better than 50 feet. Returning champion: Schulz (52-4-3/4).
Discus: Top distance: Schulz is No. 1 after his 170-1 at the Meet of Champions, while Damonte Ranch junior Adonis Williams (160-9), Reed sophomore Vehekite Afu (160-3) and Reno’s Junior Tuavao (159-4) figure to make this a potential barn burner. Carson senior Christopher Miranda has also thrown 151-9. Returning champion: Schulz (162-3).
High jump: Top height: Galena senior Quintin Mills cleared 6-8 at the LeFebvre Relays in Auburn, Calif. on March 18 and reigned as the region champion in this event in 2014.
Pole vault: Top height: Reed seniors Troy Gingerich and Bailey Aiello have both jumped 15-0. Gingerich, the defending champion in this event, also went 15-3 indoors at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. Aiello was the state Division I diving champion in 2015. This is a deep event that could require a jump of 14-6 to make the state cut, including Dallas Moss (14-0), Logan Kyle of Douglas (13-6), Parker Nelson of McQueen (13-6) and Bryce Bryant of Reed (13-6).
Long jump: Top distance: Hug senior Gerald Roscom soared 22-5-1/2 at the Carson Invitational on April 23. Top Senator: Senior Asa Carter jumped 21-3, also at the Carson Invitational.
Triple jump: Top distance: Carter hit a state-leading 48-3 at the Carson Invitational. Returning champion: Carter (45-9-3/4). Mayo has also jumped 43-0 to rank No. 4 for the Senators.
GIRLS
100 meters: Top time: Spanish Springs junior Jessica Ozoude ran a state-best 11.87 at the Reed/Sparks Rotary Invitational on April 1. Bishop Manogue senior Marin Zaccheo is the defending champion (12.16 last year, 12.55 this year). Ozoude was the 2014 region champion.
200: Top time: Ozoude, the returning region and state champion in this event, ran a state-best 23.77 to win at the Sacramento Meet of Champions.
400: Top time: Ozoude ran 58.07 at the Reed Invitational and Zaccheo 58.94 at the Carson Invitational. Returning champion: Zaccheo (58.72).
800: Top time: Carson freshman Abby Pradere ran 2:13.68 at Mt. SAC. Reno sophomore Mikayla Shults (2:18.04) and Damonte Ranch senior Caitlin Amburgey (2:18.94), the region cross country champion who has signed with UNLV, also figure to be in the state hunt.
1,600: Top time: Pradere ran 5:07.70 at the Meet of Champions and Shults has the fastest altitude time at 5:13.09.
3,200: Top time: Reno junior Kyra Hunsberger is the two-time defending champion in this event and ran 11:13.18 at the Bella Vista Bronco Roundup in Sacramento on March 18. She has not logged a meet time since April 16. Reed junior Samantha King-Shaw has run 11:19.17 and the fastest altitude time of 11:52.98 belongs to Reno sophomore Tayler Kottingger on her way to winning at Big George.
100-meter hurdles: Top time: Damonte Ranch senior Gabriella Jacobs ran 15:42 at the Meet of Champions and the two-time defending champion in this event. Top Senator: Favero is No. 6 at 17.16.
300-meter low hurdles: Top time: Favero ran 46.24 at the Meet of Champions and is the returning region champion in this event (46.47). Another Senator: Freshman Ashley Britt is ranked No. 10 at 50.68.
4x100 relay: Top time: McQueen has run 49.58. Top Tiger/Senator: Douglas is No. 5 at 52.13 and Carson is No. 9 at 54.41.
4x200 relay: Top time: McQueen has run 1:46.73. Top Tiger: Douglas is No. 5 at 1:51.90.
4x400 relay: Top time: McQueen has run 4:06.46 and could face a gold medal duel with Reed (4:07.36). Spanish Springs is No. 3 (4:15.15) and Douglas No. 4 (4:16.33).
4x800 relay: Top time: Reno has run 10:04.18, followed closely by McQueen (10:08.12). Douglas is No. 3 at 10:20.32.
Shot put: Top distance: Damonte Ranch Cassidy Osborne-Butler is the state leader with her 47-4-1/2 set at the Carson Invitational. Returning champion: Kylee Stevens-Sam (38-6-1/4) and she threw a personal best 39-3-1/4 at the Carson Invitational.
Discus: Top distance: Damonte Ranch is 1-2 in the state with Morgan Meidell’s 138-0 on March 12 during a conference meet at Reno and Osborne-Butler’s 132-8 at the Thunder Invitational in Rocklin, Calif. on April 9. McQueen senior Taylor Forte is the returning region and state runner-up from 2015 and has thrown 122-4 this season.
High jump: Top height: Jacobs cleared 5-2 at the Glenn Poole invite and Reno junior Lauren Lim 5-2 at the Reno conference meet. Six jumpers have gone 5-0 or better.
Pole vault: Top height: Galena senior Gaby Palmer leads the state with her 12-2 set at the Northwest Invitational and has shown consistency during a streak in which she has won at six straight meets — all at 10-6 or better. Reed junior Makayla Linebarger jumped 12-0 on March 19. Linebarger jumped 12-9 to win the region title as a freshman in 2014.
Long jump: Top distance: Bishop Manogue junior Amber Elkins surged to the head of the class with her 17-1-1/2 at Big George.
Triple jump: Top distance: Reed senior Journey Artis and sophomore Taylor Anderson are in a near dead-heat with respective bests of 35-6 (at the Thunder Invitational) and 35-5 (at the Reed Invitational).
