No matter how bad the weather may be, the Tom Brooks Memorial Kids Fishing Day is going to be held.
“We’re going to toughen these kids up,” said CK Baily of the Carson City Host Lions Club, which is hosting the event. Even though there could be stormy weather, Baily said the event will still be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Baily Fishing Pond at the sound end of Fuji Park. He said the only thing that would stop the event if there’s lightning in the area.
Along with the fishing day an indoor shooting range led by experts from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. There also will be archery led by the Clear Creak Bowman and duck calls, duck decoys and duck identification. Staff from the Nevada Department of Wildlife will also be represented.
Breakfast and lunch provided by the Carson Capitols Baseball Club will be available for purchase. Free T-shirts will be offered and there also will be raffle prizes, including BMX bikes to be raffled off.
Baily said up to 100 to 150 kids could participate in the event. While the pond will be stocked with the typical 10- to 12-inch trout, Baily said the pond will be stocked with bigger fish as well.
Those participating should bring their own fishing gear. Some rods will be available. Bait and hooks will be supplied. A Nevada fishing license will be required for kids 12 and older.
