Healthy Communities honored
The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties was among dozens of Nevada groups honored during Immunize Nevada’s 2016 Silver Syringe Awards ceremony. The Coalition was named Outstanding Community Partner in Northern Nevada for demonstrating “exceptional dedication to immunizations and furthering the mission of Immunize Nevada through collaboration and partnership.”
Part of the rural coalition’s Community Prevention and Wellness Strategic Plan is to increase access to preventative care such as immunizations. Its regional Health and Wellness Hub works with Community Health Nursing Clinics, schools, Carson City Health and Human Services, Immunize Nevada, Community Chest, Lyon County Human Services, and others to bring affordable or free immunizations to Remote Area Medical clinics, Medical Outreach Response Events, food pantries, schools, and other locations.
Other Lyon County area groups honored included both the Yerington and Fernley Community Health Nursing Clinics, and the Yerington Paiute Tribal Health Clinic. Julie Dums, RN, of the Fernley Community Health Nursing Clinic, was awarded a Silver Syringe for Outstanding Immunization Nurse.
