The time has come today for the Greenwave varsity swim team to show it can maintain its winning streak as the boys and girls head to the Carson Aquatic Facility for the regional finals starting at 3 p.m.
Fallon’s success today will, of course, determine which of its best move on to the regional championship Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., but with 14 swimmers and a lot talent, coach Ken Grimes is looking to the eventual state championship in Las Vegas.
“As Far as Friday and Saturday’s competition, I am confident that we have positioned ourselves to be competitive and I am excited about our prospects to send swimmers to State,” Grimes said.
Earlier this week Grimes revealed the final cast of the Wave’s swimmers this weekend and the events in which they will be competing.
Senior Danielle Brown will be joining her regular foursome of sophomore Katalina Martinez, Kaelehn Nemeth and Amber Revels in the 200-meter medley relay, a team which has taken first three meets in a row and been dominant throughout the season.
For the girls team, Brown will also swim in the 50-meter freestyle, the 100-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter free relay. Martinez will compete in the 50 free, the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter free relay. Revels will round out in the 200-meter freestyle, the 100-meter butterfly and will join Martinez, Nemeth and Sierra Vivens in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
Sierra Bivens will represent Fallon in the 50-meter freestyle, the 100-meter freestyle and will join Brown along with senior Addy Harmon and junior Madison Tiede in the 400-meter free relay, Tiede’s only event. Harmon, however, will also compete in the 200-meter freestyle and the 500-meter freestyle.
Senior Nathan Narag leads the boys team, competing in the 200-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle, 200-meter freestyle relay and the 400-meter freestyle relay. Junior Kendall Rogers and up and comer freshman Charlier Brown join Narag in the 200 free relay. Brown, attending his first regional competition with the Wave, will tackle three other events including the 200-meter medley relay, 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke. Fellow freshman Brian Seline, junior Isaac Kelsey and Rogers will join Brown in the 200-medley relay.
Seline will also compete in the 100-meter breaststroke and will join Narag and sophomores Jared Miller and Ryan Ware in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Though this will be Miller’s only event. Ware will also compete in the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke.
Rogers and Kelsey will both swim in the 50-meter freestyle. Rogers will also swim in the 100-meter backstroke, though Kelsey will compete in the 100-meter freestyle.
Senior Chia Yu Chang leads the relay alternates along with sophomore Bailey Diede and freshman Justin Bivens.
“As at any championship meet the level of competition is raised, but if we focus on our own improvement and dropping our times we have the opportunity to have some very positive results and maybe create a few upsets as well,” Grimes said.
