Boxing’s about to take over the Lahontan Valley once again and just hours after the Greenwave finish the spring and final season of the school year.

Night of Boxing returns for an encore this weekend after the baseball, softball, track and swim teams conclude action at their state tournaments.

High school boxers will square off at the Gym at Venturraci Park. Doors open Saturday at 5 p.m. with the VIP dinner and boxing to follow at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and the proceeds benefit the Greenwave wrestling team, which won its first-ever state title three months ago in Primm.

“The Night of Fights is going to be awesome,” first-year Fallon wrestling coach Trevor de Braga said. “We have a bunch of kids that have been working hard and really show some good enthusiasm and technique.”

Saturday night’s action features 12 bouts along with two sumo wrestling events, boys semi-main event, and girls and boys main events. The faux sumo wrestling made its debut last year to much applause as both bouts will headline the intermission period.

De Braga said that he and his brother, Frank, will occupy the blue corner while assistant coach Dan Shaw and ex-Wave coach Mitch Overlie will assist in the red corner. But after weeks of practice, de Braga said the boxers normally lose sight of the training and try to battle and have fun for three one-minute rounds.

“Once the kids get in the ring all the technique seems to go out the window and hundreds of punches get thrown, but it’s good to teach them anyways so a little bit of it sticks in their minds,” de Braga said.

Tuesday’s Calcutta auction at the Fallon Convention Center was a good start to the annual event.

“We didn’t have quite the amount of businesses in attendance as in the past but we generated a good amount of money, which will help our wrevstling team in the 2016-2017 season try to earn another state title,” de Braga said. “It all goes to my wrestling team and the money generated will definitely help us get into tough competitive tournaments around the country in preparation for the next wrestling season.”

Marcel “Thottie Boy” Taylor will square off against True “The Haymaker” Hanley in the boys main event, while Brianne “Fists of Fury” Richard will take on Katelynn “Good Night” White. The boys semi-main event will feature Adrian “Ace Chambers against Trae “Melon Picker” Workman.

Nichole “The Punisher” Marizcurrena will face Kiley “Lil Wool” Woolsey in the first sumo match while Mark “Two Cool” Moyle will take on Dillon “Mr. Triple Zero” Rasmussen in the second sumo match.

Along with Workman, several Greenwave wrestlers will duke it out, including Terry “The Little Great” White, Dylan “Sacafee” McAfee, Jack “El Chapo” Swisher, “Young” Sean McCormick, Juan “The Beast from the East” Ledezma, Sam “The Sandman” Goings, Kobe “Beef” Ab, Bryson “Hurricane” Abe, and Juan “The Beast from the East” Ledezma.

“I highly encourage everyone in town to come enjoy the fights and support the 2016 NIAA Nevada state championship wrestling team,” de Braga added.
