The Fallon Lions Club is hosting a community-wide cleanup of Liberty Pond south of Fallon on Saturday and is also inviting individuals and other service organizations to join them
The Liberty Pond and dog park are located on U.S. Highway 95 across from the Churchill County Fairgrounds. The workday is from 9 a.m. to noon, and at noon, the Lions Club will host a barbecue.
The Lions Club community cleanup day first began 11 years ago.
“It was spear headed by Lion Don Harmon because he saw a real need to help the community,” said Barbra Hertz, Fallon Lions Club president. “He felt that if the Lions could help clean up and beautify the park that more people would enjoy one of Fallon’s most unique parks.”
Hertz said she wonders how many residents and visitors know of the park. According to Hertz, workers should bring rakes, shovels, pruners, trimmers, cleaning tools, wheel-barrows and trucks for hauling. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and work together to help make our community better, she added.
The Fallon Lions Club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs with condiments. The Lions will have a barbecue and stove available for use. Hertz is also asking individuals and groups to bring sodas, salads, desserts and any other meats for the barbecue. Because the groups will include children, she said alcohol will not be permitted.
“We want this to be an ongoing Long Range project for the Lions Club and any other members of the community who want to help,” she said “It is badly in need of TLC, and we are really looking forward to the challenge.
