Are you interested in an Information Technology (IT) career? Are you already employed and want to learn new or hone existing skills? Are you looking for the next challenge? And would you like to train or retool in Fallon? Read on for an exciting program @Your Library!
Information Technology Gateway Training (ITGT) is being offered at the Churchill County Library thanks to gigabit broadband Internet provided by Churchill County Communications and a Workforce Challenge Grant awarded to the library by the Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology earlier this year. A partnership with Western Nevada College (WNC) and Churchill Economic Development Authority (CEDA) completes the package that makes this information technology technician training available.
Studies show a need for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related training on the state and national levels. STEM education as it relates to career development has been identified locally as a priority as well. This is a real opportunity to educate and build a tech niche within Churchill County which will lead to employment in the IT field.
Students can earn industry certifications in Microsoft and CompTIA, and CISCO Routing and Switching. A sequence of three Graphic Communications classes prepares students for web design. Classes are online with onsite instructional help. These credit-based courses apply toward WNC Certificates of Achievement and Applied Associate of Arts degrees.
Classes are block scheduled beginning June 2016. Classes continue through the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. The classroom is located at the Library Annex at 507 South Maine Street, Rear Entrance. Tuition reimbursement is available. Registration is open at www.wnc.edu/admissions/registration.
The library is proud to host ITGT and strive to create an interesting and accessible outlet for students and professionals.
