The Popcorn Stand: Cat barn hunting may actually be a pretty good idea

With all the hullabaloo surrounding Nevada Day, I missed that Saturday was National Cat Day. Actually, I didn’t even know there was a National Cat Day.

For those who want to plan early, National Dog Day is Aug. 26, 2017. I assume National Dog Day happens during August because it’s the dog days of summer. And one would assume National Cat Day happens around Halloween because of you know, black cats, and all that.

There’s also National Corn Dog Day and I can always go for a corn dog with mustard except when those two annoying guys advertise 50 cent corn dog day at Sonic. Actually, despite those two annoying guys, I look forward to 50 cent corn dog day at Sonic.

As those of you know who choose to read this Popcorn Stand, I’m a dog person. I’ve had numerous dogs as pets throughout my entire life.

Never had a cat. Not that I don’t like cats. And I have to admit, this vampire cat http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/black-vampire-cat-instagram-monkey_us_5818eb42e4b0f96eba96606d is pretty cool.

But major television networks don’t televise the National Cat Show on Thanksgiving or the Westminster Cat Show in February. As far as I know, there’s no barn hunt events involving cats chasing mice, although the more I think about it, that would make more sense.

And New York City also actually has a pretty cool program in which it uses feral cats to hunt rats.

There is though the American Cat Fanciers Association and there are actually numerous cat shows across North America. And the ACFA board will meet in Las Vegas in February.

So cats deserve their just due. Sorta makes me sorry I missed National Cat Day.

Maybe it was because I was already planning for National Dog Day.
