South Tahoe’s Lady Vikings ended their regular season with an overall ranking of 17-9, making them the fourth seed in this season’s Northern 3A Regional Volleyball Tournament.

South Tahoe is a solid team that relies on a strong defense and serves in their strategies. The first half of the season started well, with a number of back-to-back wins; in the second half, though, they struggled and lost a number of matches after the other teams had adjusted their tactics.

Coach Kelly Racca said she is thrilled they are going into the playoffs and is proud of her team’s accomplishments. She recalled seniors setter Zoe Mosedale (477 assists this season) and libero Ashley Bricker (422 digs and 45 aces) were chosen for the first team in the all-league.

Juniors McKenna Brewer (196 kills) and Novel Moses (172 kills) were also selected for the second team all-league.

Racca said they are looking forward to their first game of the tournament, tonight against Lowry. The Lady Vikings defeated them in both regular season games, though the coach noted the Lady Buckaroos defeated Fallon, the No. 2 team in the region, and should not be overestimated.

“They are definitely not a team we can look past,” Racca said. “We hope to push the pace, be scrappy in defense, and execute our game plan.”

Whoever wins tonight’s game, at 5 p.m., will move on to face Truckee, the top team in the region. That game will begin tomorrow at noon.
