Western Nevada College President Chet Burton
Western Nevada College President Chet Burton and Niki Gladys, Executive Director of the WNC Foundation, will assist the Leisure Hour Club in recognizing this year’s recipients of three Leisure Hour Club Scholarships. In addition, President Burton will share insights into the college’s leadership role in providing higher education to the residents of Northern Nevada. The presentation will occur at the Club’s dinner meeting on Wednesday, November 16.
The session will include information about several innovative programs that the college is currently offering including:
The Jump Start College Program that graduated 27 students last spring with their associates degree at the same time they were receiving their high school diploma.
The Applied Industrial Technology program and how WNC is working with local manufacturers to provide the certifications that will create the workforce that our area demands.
The Veteran’s Resource Center and a new program at Warm Springs Correctional Center that offers incarcerated veterans educational opportunities.
President Burton may also touch on future plans for the college including a remodel of science labs and plans for a new residence hall on campus.

The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously operating social organization. Continuing to celebrate its 120th year, the organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature.
