Up and down the mountains we go

Watson here and I’m on a big adventure. Yes, my folks decided to take me with them to Colorado. My Aunt Mary had her foot operated on, so we came out to help her and her four dogs. I’ve become one of the pack, and we are having a great time!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we are celebrating being together while we’re here. Mom will carve the turkey and give all of us a bite or two. Then it looks like we’re all going to get a big plate of delicious yummy for our tummies. It’s hard to remember my life before I was adopted because my life is so good now.

Thanks to CAPS, I have a happy home where I’m loved and appreciated. All of Aunt Mary’s dogs are rescues too. I guess you could say we rescued our people and they rescued us. What a great deal! You can make your Thanksgiving a lot happier by sharing it with a furry friend.

Well, I’ve got to go now because we are headed to the greatest dog park in the world. Bear Creek Dog Park has 22 acres of fun with a river running through it. Guess who is going swimming? Happy Thanksgiving!

COME SEE US

CAPS will be at Walmart Saturday with the Kissin’ Booth and a wiggly volunteer to kiss. We have caps, short-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, so please check them out after you have greeted our pup pal. Hurry and order the 2017 Happy Endings Calendar. Christmas is right around the corner, so be sure to get a gift for the dog and cat lover in your life.

IN NEED OF

Our shelter operates on the generous donations supplied by our community. If you are able to give any of the following supplies, we would be most grateful: bleach, laundry detergent, trash bags, disinfectant wipes, blankets or bedspreads, dog igloos, carriers for cats or dogs, cat scratchers, cat toys, dog toys and cat beds.

We also collect aluminum cans, so we would appreciate any donations. You can drop off the cans at CAPS or call us and we’ll arrange a pick up.

LOOKING FOR A HOME

Do you remember Petey from “Our Gang”? He was the white dog with a black circle around his eye. Well, we have a pup who looks like a big Petey. Boss is a three-year-old pit bull mix. He is quite the ball player and loves to play catch. He’s afraid of other dogs but has been going to daycare to learn how to meet and greet. Bring your best game out and play with Boss. He will let you know who the boss of the ball is.

November is a month for celebrating many pet events: Adopt a Senior Pet Month, National Pet Awareness Month and Pet Awareness Month.

SNAPS is a program offered through CAPS that provides low-cost spay/neutering for cats and dogs. To qualify for SNAPS, you need to have one of the following: Medicaid, a child enrolled in NV Check Up Program, food stamps, 2015 tax return stating income is less than $30,000.00 or Veterans disability card including a photo id. Also required are a Churchill County ID and a co-pay. For more information, call CAPS at 423-7500.

Flower Tree Nursery is again raffling a 20-gallon live blue spruce. The raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets. Be sure to get your tickets soon. The drawing will be held on Dec. 6, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win.
