Carson Valley artist holding annual open studio Dec. 10-11

A Gardnerville artist is showcasing a dozen paintings that depict Jobs Peak at different times of the year.

Teri Sweeney will showcase her work at her 7th Annual Open Studio from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

This year, the artist will be featuring her “From My Window” series, which spotlights the famous peak that looms over Carson Valley.

Sweeney said she was inspired to paint the series after moving to her current home/studio two years ago and finding herself working in front of a large window with views of the Sierra Nevada.

The centerpiece for the show is a large painting of Jobs Peak with a hawk soaring above the mountaintops, a piece that recently won best of show at the Carson Valley Art Association’s Scholarship Show.

Those who go to the open house will see artwork in both watercolor and oil, and ranging in size from affordable miniatures to large, sofa sized paintings.

The open studio also will showcase some of Sweeney’s other work.

All original artwork, prints and cards will be for sale, and all work is available to order as prints in any size.

Along with the art displays, visitors will be able to tour both Sweeney’s studio and the classroom in which she teaches weekly classes.

Both Sweeney and Ann Proffit, who also teaches beginning watercolor classes at the studio, will be on hand to answer any questions about the art and classes.
