Churchill slips 1.2% in August taxable sales

Churchill County taxable sales dropped in August by 1.2 percent and 11.2 percent for the fiscal year that began on July 1.

Taxable sales for the month were $22.1 million compared to $22.3 one year ago at the same time. Fiscal year totals came in at $42.6.

Statewide taxable sales, though, increased 10.6 to $4.6 billion with the largest gains in Merchandise Wholesalers, Durable Goods; Food Services and Drinking Places; Motor Vehicle and Parts Dealers; Building Material and Garden Equipment and Supplies Dealers; and Renting and Leasing Services.

Thirteen counties showed an increase, while Churchill, Douglas, Humboldt and White Pine all decreased.

Among the major businesses in Churchill County, Building Material and Garden Equipment and Sales fell 7.4 percent to $1.6 million; Food and Beverage Stores saw a 27 percent decline to $715,953; General Merchandise Stores slipped 2 percent to $3.6 million. And Food Services and Drinking Places came in at $2.8 million compared to $3 million in August 2015.

On the bright side, Merchant Wholesales — Durable Goods and Nondurable Goods — rose 28.6 percent and 34.6 percent, respectively. Durable goods came in at &1.7 million.

Motor Vehicle and Parts Dealers jumped 18.3 percent to $3.7 million.

Neighboring Lyon County had a 12 percent increase for August to $34.7 million and leaped 252 percent for the fiscal year.
