NV Energy residential electric customers throughout Northern Nevada can reduce their heating and cooling costs by up to $100 a year and help lower peak energy demand with the PowerShift Smart Thermostat.

This free service valued at $300 saves energy and maintains customer comfort preferences by continuously adapting the operation of the customer’s heating and cooling (HVAC) equipment based upon how the home heats up and cools down.

“Heating and air conditioning typically account for 50 percent of an electric bill, which is why NV Energy offers its customers the free Smart Thermostat service to ensure their HVAC system is working as efficiently as possible,” said Pat Egan, senior vice president of Customer Operations for NV Energy. “More than 37,000 customers statewide have already signed up for this innovative, easy-to-use technology and are now seeing lower energy bills without sacrificing comfort.”

Added benefits include the ability to control the thermostat through a mobile app and access to customized energy savings reports. Eligible customers must have central air conditioning and broadband internet.

During peak summer months, or on days when the demand for electricity is at its highest, PowerShift Smart Thermostat customers can participate in Community Energy Events. A signal is sent to the thermostat to decrease the set temperature by four degrees. These events are optional and help reduce power consumption and total electricity load. By participating, customers can earn rebate credits that are applied to their bill at the end of the year.
