Runners and walkers of all skill levels will touch down on Telegraph Square on the morning of Nevada Day to complete the 27th Annual Classic 8K Run and 2 Mile Run/Walk.

The flat and fast road courses traverse through the west side, starting and finishing in Carson City’s historic downtown.

All races start at 8 a.m. Oct. 29 at the intersection of Telegraph and Curry streets. They finish on Carson Street in front of the Nugget.

Both groups of racers wrap up just before the start to the parade with onlookers lining Carson Street to cheer them in.

Post race activities include food and a raffle on the second floor of the Nugget. Costumes are encouraged, the best of which will be awarded following the race.

An annual event since 1989, the Nevada Day Classic, presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, attracts more than 400 participants.

It benefits Guide Dogs for the Blind, an organization that prepares guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or challenged by low vision.

The nonprofit, established in 1942, was founded to serve returning World War II veterans who lost their sight in combat. The organization serves blind and visually impaired individuals throughout the U.S. and Canada. All of the services it provides are free, including personalized training and extensive post-graduation support, plus financial assistance for veterinary care, if needed.

The event is organized in partnership with the Carson City Guide Dog Club. Guide dogs and puppies in training will participate in the walk portion of the event.

The cost to take part in any of the races is $30. The price goes up to $35 after Oct. 21.

Registration is open at www.nevadadayclassic.org through Wednesday, Oct. 26. Racers can sign up on race day, but they will not be officially timed.
