The Carson City District Attorney’s office is hosting its first charity dodgeball event to raise money for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
The DA’s Office will host its first Dodge for the Cause, a dodgeball tournament to promote domestic violence awareness, Friday, Nov. 4.
“We thought this is a team sport and we deal with an ugly, dark field so we just wanted to have fun with it,” said Frankee Haynes, Victim Services Administrator for the District Attorney’s Office. “We looked at it like a camaraderie and a community event.”
Several public safety organizations have teams signed up — including the Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, Alternative Sentencing and Juvenile Probation — but anyone from the community is welcome to form a team and play. Registration is $10 per person and teams receive free T-shirts, bags and other swag items. The winning team also will receive a trophy and bragging rights for the year, Haynes said.
Community members can come and watch the tournament as well for a $1 donation or a toiletry donation at the door.
“We just really look forward to seeing everyone out there,” Haynes said.
Haynes said they are hoping to make this an annual event to continue to benefit Advocates and to raise awareness.
To register a team, contact Susan Crawford at 775-887-2268.
Everyone is also encouraged to wear purple — the color for domestic violence awareness and teams should have fun with their dress attire.
The event will be held Nov. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center at 1860 Russell Way.
