Magic is bursting from Under the Sea as the acclaimed Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company puts the final glittering touches on Disney’s Academy Award-winning “The Little Mermaid.”
This Broadway blockbuster will play at the Carson City Community Center weekends, Nov. 4-20.
Animated with Alan Menken’s award-winning score, including “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl,” the show features explosive choreography, dazzling costumes and sets, irresistible comedy and an enchanting love story.
“While this show will certainly mesmerize all the children in the audience, the adults will be just as entranced,” said producer/director Stephanie Arrigotti. “Adults watching the rehearsals roar with laughter and are blown away by Gina Kaskie Davis’ choreography.”
Disney has been converting its highly popular movies into Broadway musicals during this millennium and WNMTC has produced these technically fiendish blockbusters to great response from Northern Nevada and beyond. The company’s 2015 production of “Mary Poppins” drew upward of 6,500 people from 18 states. This show promises a similar audience.
Taken from the tale of Hans Christian Anderson, “The Little Mermaid” tells of a mermaid who falls in love with a human prince and risks her beautiful voice in exchange for a becoming human to be with him.
The WNMTC production features Olivia Swearingen as Ariel, Thomas Thompson as Prince Eric, Joseph Campbell as Sebastian, Jayse Gillott as Scuttle, Cindy Sabatini as Ursula, Matt Wilkerson as King Triton and Phoenix Burke as Flounder.
A professional orchestra is conducted by Kevin Murphy and the Broadway flight company Flying by Foy handles the flying sequences. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There also is a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Tickets cost $28 and $25 according to the location in the theater and are available from WNMTC.com or by calling 866-977-6849.
