Winners of annual Nevada Day Art Show

Artists from all over Nevada placed in an art show celebrating the Silver State’s birthday.

The Nevada Artists Association holds its annual Nevada Day art exhibition at its gallery in the Brewery Arts Center.

The independent judges for the art show chose “80 Acres,” an oil by Sally Cohen of Reno, as Best of Show. The NAA show committee chose “The Wranglers,” a mixed media painting by Glyness Miller of Carson City, for the Spirit of Nevada award.

This is the 66th year the NAA has presented the Nevada Day Show. In all those years and more, Pat Holub of Carson City has been involved as an officer of the Board and active member. She also is one of the founders of the NAA. To honor her, the NAA has added the Pat Holub Award for the first time this year. The award will be part of all future Nevada Day Show exhibitions. Holub will chose an art piece for this event annually. For her pick in this year’s exhibition, the Pat Holub Award was given to “In the Notch,” a pastel by Ruthann Wagner of Carson City.

The first place winners in the eight media categories for this show are 3 Dimensional art, “Coral Reef,” a glass sculpture by Donna Jensen of Carson City; Photography, “100 Years a Nevadan,” Fred Howland of Carson City; Pastel, “Muk,” Peggy Holsclaw of Carson City; Paintings: “Baby Girl,” an oil by Susan Schmid of Gardnerville; “Seasoned Veteran,” an acrylic by Darcy Tate of Wells; “Dat So La Lee Baskets,” a watercolor by Ruthann Wagner of Carson City.

Dry Media: “In the Bitter Cold,” pencil, Glyness Miller of Carson City.

Digital: “The Magic Trees,” a computer rendering by Catherine King of Verdi.

The public is invited to a reception and awards ceremony at the NAA Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 12.

The exhibit, which opened Oct. 23, can be seen through Jan. 6 at the NAA gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free and all art is for sale.
