Tom Gardner, long time resident of Carson City, NV, passed away suddenly at his home in Belize on 8/17/16 with his wife Rose Gardner by his side.


Tom was born in San Francisco, CA and graduated from George Washington High, S.F. City College and attended San Jose State University.


In his early life, Tom was married to Betty Brady and together they had two children, Kelly Graver (Gardner) and Jason Gardner.


Tom dedicated much of his life to athletics, first competing in Track and Field at the college level, then coaching others at the Nevada -Youth Training Center, and in the Special Olympics. He was an avid pool player, Miniature golf enthusiast, and loved a Sunday afternoon watching football from his favorite chair.


He dedicated much of his life to helping young adults in his professional and personal life: As a coach, counselor, friend, and long-time volunteer with the Carson City Jaycees and later as a JCI senator.


After his retirement from the Carson City Sheriff’s department, he and his wife Rose followed their dream and headed to Belize where they lived for the past 6 years, creating a warm and wonderful community in the Caribbean.


Tom with his long- time law enforcement background helped the community create a successful local “Neighborhood Watch” program in Consejo Shores Area. The organizational structure of the program he designed, has become a model for Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the country. A passion for sports & competition led Tom to create many annual physical activity events in his community. He also coached residents on pool instruction!


Tom is preceded in death by his parents George Gardner, Barbara Clark, Step mom CharlotteHough, and his brother Bob Gardner.


His loving Wife, Rose, Children; Jason and Kelly, three grandchildren, Ashton, Jade, and Clay, Sister Kathy and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends will miss him dearly.


A celebration of life will be held on December 4, 2016 at Glenn Eagles Restaurant in Carson City from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Please RSVP if you can attend: free2kite@att.net
