Luana Olsen, Director of the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, will be the featured speaker to the Leisure Hour Club as the club opens its 121st year. She will explore the history of the museum and share information on its current activities and workshops. Additionally, Olsen will receive a donation from the club to support the work and learning opportunities that the museum provides to children.
The presentation on the museum will occur at the club’s dinner meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is the only family-orientated indoor destination in Carson City where children can explore, learn, and safely play. For the past 22 years, the museum’s home has been the historic building that originally served as Carson City’s Civic Auditorium.
The museum provides engaging and interactive exhibits and programs that allow families to learn and play together. Activities are offered in the arts, sciences, and humanities. The museum relies on fundraisers, grants, sponsorships, admission, memberships and birthday parties to fund day-to-day operations and new exhibits/programs.

The presentation is preceded by a buffet dinner at 6:30 in the Carson Nugget Capitol Ballroom. Reservations for the meeting and dinner are required.
The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously operating social organization. Continuing to celebrate its 120th year, the organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature.
