AUTUMN FESTIVAL

The public is invited to celebrate autumn at a fall festival hosted by the St. Patrick parish family on Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the church parking lot and parish hall at 850 W. 4th St.

Children will enjoy playing in a bounce house and winning prizes at various game booths including a bean bag toss, a dice roll, a ring toss, a lollipop pull, a fish pond, and more. Contests such as a cake walk and a “pie in the face” throw are also planned. Multicultural food will be available for purchase at different booths set up at the community event.

Raffle drawings will take place. Raffle tickets at $10 each are currently on sale and may be obtained by calling the parish office at 775-423-2846 or Ginny Dugan at 775-423-4559. Individuals need not be present to win. Proceeds from the Sept. 24 fundraiser will benefit the St. Patrick building fund.


CURRENT

Caregiver support groups

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Support Groups are designed to provide emotional and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. Participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.

The groups encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related form of dementia.

Free of charge and walk-ins are welcome.

Open discussion with a trained facilitator. Date: Second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Time: 10:30 a.m.–noon. Location: The Homestead. 365 West A St.

College application process session

P.E.O. Chapter D, the Rotary Club of Fallon and Western Nevada College (WNC) are sponsoring an informational event to help middle and high school students plus their parents learn about the college application process.

It will take place Sept. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at WNC Fallon Campus, Getto Hall, Room 302. It is designed to: (1) Answer the Riddle: Which College is for me? (2) Teach how to Prepare for and Maneuver through the College Application maze and (3) Help solve the Scholarship and Financial Aid puzzle.

Tickets (cash only) are $15 per parent & one student (recommended); $15 per adult; $10 per student.

All proceeds go to P.E.O. and Rotary Club scholarships for local high school seniors.

Wishing Tree applications

Applications for the 2016 Wishing Tree Program are now available and due by 5 p.m. Oct. 14.

The Wishing Tree Program provides gifts during the holiday season for Churchill County youth 0 to 17 years of age who meet income and residency requirements.

Applications may be picked up at Churchill County Social Services, 485 West B St., Suite #105, Fallon during normal business hours.

The Wishing Tree Program is possible due to the combined volunteer efforts of the CC Communications Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association, Churchill County Social Services, and community members who donate both time and gifts.

USDA food distribution

USDA Food Distribution will be at the American Legion Post #16, 90 N. Ada St., from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sept. 21. Please bring your Nevada photo I.D. and if necessary proof of Churchill County residency. Also, bring your own boxes and/or carts.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home.

Did you know reading to your child is one of the most powerful ways to boost brain power? Well it’s true and the library can help with that!

Read it and reap

1000 Books Before Kindergarten: Read it and Reap! is a fun and exciting early literacy program for infants through age 5 to get them ready to read.

Volunteers needed for food distribution

Volunteers needed in Fallon to help distribute food during the day, one Wednesday every two months. Must be able to stand at least five hours.

Fallon Animal Welfare Group’s fall yard sale is Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m, Allen Road Storge #51, 1151 Allen Road.

St. Patrick’s bingo

St. Patrick Catholic Church at 450 W. 4th St. offers bingo on the first and third Saturdays of each month beginning Sept. 17.

Logos to present state educational information

An ESA (Educational Services Association) information event will be held Sept. 16 beginning at 6 p.m. at Logos Christian Academy, 655 Sheckler Road.

Represnetatives from the state Attorney General and Treasurer’s offices will provide updates on Nevada’s ESAs. Receive the latest updates and information about Nevada’s new educational choice program.

Cancer fundraiser

P’jammin for Cancer will be held on Sept. 29 at all CCSD schools with the exception of Northside. Students/staff can wear their pajamas to school for any donation.

All donations go to Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation to help families with a child who is battling cancer.

Are you a writer looking for a place to work with like-minded people?

The Churchill County Library is pleased to announce its Writer’s Workshop led by Sara Dowling. Meetings are every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Annex for quiet work. Or the library for a more conversational approach.

Help Churchill County “Celebrate” our local talent! Artists, photographers, artisans of all genre are invited to showcase their work .at the County’s Administration Complex. Exhibits are on-going and ever-changing.

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order.
