Association of University Women holds brunch

The American Association of University Women Capital (NV) Branch kicked off its 2016-2017 events on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a brunch at the home of Membership Chair Mary L. Wilson in Dayton. Thirty- five women attended.

“The AAUW Capital (NV) Branch is a motivated group of educated women who advocate for women and girls,” Wilson said. “Our meetings focus on issues that affect women and girls in today’s complex environment.”

As one of nearly 1,000 branches across the United States, the Capital (NV) Branch supports programs and issues that will achieve broader equity for women and girls. Those who attended the brunch received an overview of AAUW; highlights of the history of the Capital (NV) Branch, as well as information about the upcoming programs for the year including the annual fundraising events. These included proceeds from pecan sales and the Feast of Chocolates. Proceeds from these events provide scholarships to local area women graduates; women resuming their education at Western Nevada College and to the AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund. This overview, history, and scholarship allocation was presented by Caroline Punches, President of AAUW Capital (NV) Branch.
