Carson City Public Works plans to test five fire hydrants in four different parts of town Tuesday.
The areas are East Overland and California streets, Winters Drive and Telegraph Street, Crain and Terrace streets, and two tests on Wagner Drive, at Richard and Michael drives.
The city sent out a message via Code Red, a reverse notification system, to affected residences and businesses.
The message said there might be periods of discolored water due to naturally occurring minerals and to avoid washing light colored laundry if water is discolored. The discoloration is expected to clear up in a few hours.
