Silver trowel: A massive silver trowel bears the inscription: “Presented by the employees of the Gould and Curry Mill to A. Curry, Superintendent of the U.S. Branch Mint, Carson City, Nevada.” This elegant trowel will be used in the corner stone ceremonies.

Scarlet fever: Many children are down with scarlet fever, and dyptheria (sic) is also reported. Both are perilous and require the high medical skill to combat. It is apt to grow more dangerous when cold weather comes.

Vikingsholm: The estate of the Lora J. Knight home of Vikingsholm at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, has been sold to Lawrence J. Holland of Washoe County. The exact price was not made public but was said to be $250,000. The property is one of the finest country sites on Lake Tahoe. It includes the magnificent home, the beach along Emerald Bay, the tiny island and two hundred acres of surrounding mountain land.

Photo caption: Craters on the moon? Not at all. They are photos taken right outside Carson City by Nevada State Museum staff photographer Ernie Thies. They are footprints of the early Pleistocene Epoch or “ice Age” in an area now occupied by the Nevada State Prison.

Tax for bypass: The Carson City Board of Supervisors plans to institute a 5-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax in November to help pay for part of the bypass through Carson City.
